How to Read & identify Bearing Number

How to Read & identify Bearing Number?

Bearing is a material which is used to rotate the equipment in liner movement. Bearing is used to reduce the stress and friction of the machine.

There are many types of bearing in the market some of the most used bearings are ball bearing, roller bearing, cylindrical roller bearing, tapered roller bearings, thrust bearing etc….

Each bearing contains its own dimensions identification… in this tutorial, we are going to see how to identify the bearing number 6206 ZZ 2RS & 6205 ZZ 2RS..

First digit identification of bearing:

The first Number 6 says about the type of bearing, here 6 means it is ball bearing suppose incase if it is 1 means that’s deep grooved ball bearings, 2 means cylindrical roller bearing, 3 means thrust bearings etc here the list of tables for your reference.

1 Self aligning Ball Bearing
2 Spherical ball bearing
3 Double row Angular contact Ball Bearing
4 Double row ball bearing
5 Thrust ball bearing
6 Single row deep groove ball bearing
7 Single row angular contact
8 Felt Seal Bearing
32/T Tappered roller bearing
R Inch bearing
N Cylinderical roller bearing
NN Double row roller bearing
NA Needle roller bearing
BK Needle roller bearing with closed end
HK Needle roller bearing with open end
C CARB toroidal roller bearing
K Needle roller bearing and cast thrust assembly
QJ Four Point contact ball bearing

Second digit identification of bearing:

The second digit says about the toughness of the bearing, here 2 mentions that the bearing can be used for light duty applications.

Extra Light
1 Extra light thrust
2 Light
3 Medium
4 Heavy
5 Extra thin section
6 Very thin section

The third and fourth digit identification of bearing:

The third and fourth digit tells about the inner diameter of the bearing. i.e here 06 mentions the bearing inner diameter is 30mm and 05 mentions the inner diameter is 25mm such that.

*00 10 mm
*01 12 mm
*02 15 mm
*03 17 mm
*04 20 mm (4 x 5 mm)
*05 25 mm  (5 x 5 mm)
*06 30 mm (6 x 5 mm)
above above => multiplication of 5mm
* In case there is no fourth digit, then the 3rd digit indicates the bore size in mm. For example: in case of bearing 636, the bore size of the bearing will be 6mm

The bearings last Letter identification:

Last digit says about the type of enclose used.
