Series Current Formula:

In electrical circuits, a series circuit is one where components are connected end-to-end in such a way that there is only one path for current to flow.

This setup means that the same current flows through each component in the circuit. In a series circuit, the total resistance is the sum of the individual resistances along the circuit.

Limitations and Considerations

Dependence: If one component fails in a series circuit, the entire circuit can stop functioning because the path for the current is interrupted.

Control: It is harder to control the voltage across individual components independently in a series circuit.

Series Circuits: Current is the same through all components, but the voltage is divided among them. Failure of one component breaks the entire circuit.

Types of Series Current:

Resistive Series Current: Occurs in a circuit with only resistors in series, where the current is uniformly distributed through each resistor.

Reactive Series Current: Occurs in a circuit with inductors and/or capacitors in series, where the current can be influenced by the reactance of these components.

Series current, Is(A) in amperes is calculated by dividing the total voltage, V(V) in volts by resistance, Rs(Ω) in ohms.

Series Current Calculation:

1. A series circuit with a total voltage of 24 volts and resistances of 6 ohms, 4 ohms, and 10 ohms.

Given: V(V) = 24V, Rs(Ω) = 6 + 4 + 10 = 20 Ω.

Series current, Is(A) = V(V) / Rs(Ω)

Is(A) = 24 / 20

Is(A) = 1.2A.

2. A series circuit with a total current of 2 amperes and a voltage supply of 40 volts.

Given: V(V) = 40V, Is(A) = 2A.

Series current, Is(A) = V(V) / Rs(Ω)

Rs(Ω) = V(V) / Is(A)

Rs(Ω) = 40 / 2

Rs(Ω) = 20 Ω.
