The Self cleansing Velocity Vs(m/s) in meter per second is equal to the value of 1 divided by the Manning’s coefficient of roughness (n) into multiply the Hydraulic Radius R(m)  in meter and multiply the SQRT of the Dimensionless constant of the particles B  and again multiply the Specific gravity of the particles Gs to subtracted by the value of 1 into multiply the Diameter of the particles ds(m) in meter.

The Equation of Self cleansing Velocity can be writtern as,

Vs(m/s) = 1 / n * R1/6(m) * SQRT ( B * ( Gs -1 ) ds(m) )

Here,

Vs(m/s) = Self cleansing Velocity in meter per second

n = Manning’s coefficient of roughness

R(m) = Hydraulic Radius in meter

B = Dimensionless constant of the particles

Gs = Specific gravity of the particles

ds(m) = Diameter of the particles in meter

Calculation for Self Cleansing Velocity:

1)Determine the Self cleansing Velocity and given for R = 3m , n = .30 , B = .50 , Gs = 1.30 , ds = .50m

Answer

Vs = 1 / n * R1/6 * SQRT ( B * ( Gs – 1 ) * ds )

Vs = 1/ .30 * 31/6 * √ ( .50 * ( 1.30 – 1 ) * .50 )

Vs = 1.096m/s.

2)Determine the ds and given for R = 3m , n = .30 , B = .50 , Gs = 1.30 , Self cleansing Velocity = 1.096m/s.

Answer
