Newton to G Force Formula

The Newton to G-force formula converts a force measured in Newtons (N) into the equivalent acceleration experienced as G-force (G). G-force is a measure of acceleration relative to Earth’s gravity, with 1 G being equivalent to Earth’s gravitational acceleration of approximately 9.81 m/s2.

G-Force, GF(G) in G’s is equal to the force F(N) in Newtons divided by the mass m(kg) in kilograms and then divided by the acceleration due to gravity (9.81 m/s²).

G-Force, GF(G) = F(N) / m(kg) * 9.81

GF(G) = G-Force in G’s.

F(N) = force in Newton, N.

m(kg) = mass in kilogram, kg.

Newton to G Force Calculation:

  1. A force of 980.7 Newtons is applied to a mass of 100 kg. Calculate the G-force experienced by the mass.

Given: F(N) = 980.7N, m(kg) = 100kg.

G-Force, GF(G) = F(N) / m(kg) * 9.81

GF(G) = 980.7 / 100 * 9.81

GF(G) = 1G.

  1. G-force (GF) of 5 G’s acting on a mass of 50 kg, and you want to find the force in Newtons.

Given: GF(G) = 5G, m(kg) = 50kg.

G-Force, GF(G) = F(N) / m(kg) * 9.81

F(N) = GF(G) * m(kg) * 9.81

F(N) = 5 * 50 * 9.81

F(N) = 2452.5N.
