Hydraulic Force Calculator, Formula, Hydraulic Force Calculation

Hydraulic Force Calculator:

Enter the values of pressure, P(Pa), rod diameter, Dr(m) and piston diameter, Dp(m) to generate the value of hydraulic force, F(N).

Enter Pressure: Pa
Enter Piston Diameter: m
Enter Rod Diameter: m

Result – Hydraulic Force: N

Hydraulic Force Formula:

The hydraulic force formula is crucial for understanding the force generated by hydraulic systems, such as in hydraulic presses or jacks. This force is a result of fluid pressure applied over a specific area.

Hydraulic force, F(N) in Newton is equal to:

(i) substract the value of rod diameter, Dr(m) in metres from piston diameter, Dp(m) in metres,

(ii) divide the product of pressure, P(Pa) in Pascals, subtracted diameter value in metres and pi by 4.

Hydraulic force, F(N) =  P(Pa) * ( 3.14 * (Dp2(m) – Dr2(m)) ) / 4

F(N) = hydraulic force in Newton, N.

P(Pa) = pressure in Pascals, Pa.

Dp(m) = piston diameter in metres, m.

Dr(m) = rod diameter in metres, m. (if no rod, Dr(m) = 0)

Hydraulic Force Calculation:

1. A hydraulic press has a piston diameter of 0.1 metres and no rod. The pressure applied within the system is 2,000,000 Pascals (2 MPa). Calculate the force exerted by the piston.

Given: P(Pa) = 2,000,000, Dp(m) = 0.1m, Dr(m) = 0.

Hydraulic force, F(N) =  P(Pa) * ( 3.14 * (Dp2(m) – Dr2(m)) ) / 4

F(N) = 2,000,000 * (3.14 * (0.12– 0) ) / 4

F(N) = 2,000,000 *  0.00785

F(N) = 15,700N.

2. Calculate the pressure required to generate a force of 20,000 N in a hydraulic system with a piston diameter of 0.15 metres and a rod diameter of 0.05 metres.

Given: Dr(m) = 0.05m, Dp(m) = 0.1m, F(N) = 20,000N.

Hydraulic force, F(N) =  P(Pa) * ( 3.14 * (Dp2(m) – Dr2(m)) ) / 4

P(Pa) = 4 * F(N) / ( 3.14 * (Dp2(m) – Dr2(m)) )

P(Pa) = 4 * 20000 / (3.14 * (0.1-0.05))

P(Pa) = 80000/ 0.0628

P(Pa) = 1.274MPa
