Groundwater Velocity Formula

The Groundwater Velocity Vgw(m/s) in meter per second is equal to the Horizondal Conductivity K into multiply the Horizondal Hydraulic Gradient L is Divided by the Effective porosity n.

The Formula of Groundwater Velocity can be writtern as,

Vgw(m/s) = K * L / n

Here,

Vgw(m/s) = Groundwater Velocity in meter per second

K = Horizondal Conductivity

L = Horizondal Hydraulic Gradient

n = Effective porosity

Calculation For Groundwater Velocity ;

1)Calculate the Groundwater Velocity and given for Horizondal Conductivity = 10 , Horizondal Hydraulic Gradient = 5 , Effective porosity = 2.

Answer

Vgw = K * L / n

Vgw = 10 * 5 / 2

Vgw = 25m/s.

2)Calculate the Effective porosity and given for Horizondal Conductivity = 10 , Horizondal Hydraulic Gradient = 5 , Groundwater Velocity = 25m/s.

Answer

Vgw = K * L / n

25 = 10 * 5 / n

n = 2.
