Exhaust Velocity Calculator, Formula, Exhaust Velocity Calculation

Exhaust Velocity Calculator:

Enter the values of Thrust force F(Newton), Exit pressure pe(N/m2), Atmospheric pressure pa(N/m2), Exhaust Area A(m2) & Mass flow rate mdot(kg/s) to determine the value of Exhaust Velocity V(m/s) .

Enter Thrust Force: Newton
Enter Exit Pressure: N/m2
Enter Atmospheric Pressure: N/m2
Enter Exhaust Area: m2
Enter Mass Flow Rate: kg/s

Result – Exhaust Velocity: m/s

Exhaust Velocity Formula:

The Exhaust Velocity V(m/s) in meter per second is equal to the Thrust force F(Newton) in Newton to subtracted by the Exit pressure pe(N/m2) in Newton per meter square and subtracted to the Atmospheric pressure pa(N/m2) in Newton per meter square and multiply the Exhaust Area A(m2) in meter square is Divided by the Mass flow rate mdot(kg/s) in kilogram per second.

The Equation of Exhaust Velocity can be writtern as,

V(m/s) = ( F(Newton) – ( pe(N/m2) – pa(N/m2) ) * A(m2)  ) / mdot(kg/s)

Here,

V(m/s) = Exhaust Velocity in meter per second

F(Newton) = Thrust force in Newton

pe(N/m2) = Exit pressure in Newton per meter square

pa(N/m2) = Atmospheric pressure in Newton per meter square

A(m2) = Exhaust Area in meter square

mdot(kg/s) = Mass flow rate in kilogram per second

Example Problems for Exhaust Velocity :

1)Determine the Exhaust Velocity and given for Thrust force = 4500N , Exit pressure = 80N/m2 , Atmospheric pressure = 20N/m2 , Exhaust Area = 2m2 , Mass flow rate = 400kg/s.

Answer

V = ( F – ( pe – pa ) * A ) / mdot

V = ( 4500 – ( 80 – 20 ) * 2 ) / 400

V = 10.95m/s.

2)Determine the Mass flow rate and given for Thrust force = 4500N , Exit pressure = 80N/m2 , Atmospheric pressure = 20N/m2 , Exhaust Area = 2m2 , Exhaust Velocity = 10.95m/s.

Answer

V = ( F – ( pe – pa ) * A ) / mdot

10.95 = ( 4500 – ( 80 – 20 ) * 2 ) / mdot

mdot = 400kg/s.
