Drift Velocity Calculator, Formula, Drift Velocity Calculation

Drift Velocity Calculator:

Enter the values of Current I(amps), Free Electron Density n(e/m3), Cross-sectional Area A(m2) & Charge q(C) to determine the value of Drift Velocity u(m/s) .

Enter Current: amps
Enter Free Electron Density: e/m3
Enter Cross-sectional Area: m2
Enter Charge: C

Result – Drift Velocity: m/s

Drift Velocity Formula:

The Drift Velocity u(m/s) in meter per second is equal to the Current I(amps) in amps into divided by the Free Electron Density n(e/m3)  in electron per meter cubic and multiply the Cross-sectional Area A(m2) in meter square and again multiply the Charge q(C) in coulomb.

The Formula of Drift Velocity can be writtern as,

u(m/s) = I(amps) / ( n(e/m3)  * A(m2) * q(C) )

Here,

u(m/s) = Drift Velocity in meter per second

I(amps) = Current in amps

n(e/m3)  = Free Electron Density in electron per meter cubic

A(m2) = Cross-sectional Area in meter square

q(C) = Charge in coulomb

Calculation for Drift Velocity :

1)Determine the Drift Velocity and given for the Current = 6amps , Free Electron Density = 25e/m3 , Cross-sectional Area = 2m2 , Charge = 2C.

Answer

u = I / ( n  * A * q )

u = 6 / ( 25 * 2 * 2 )

u = 0.06m/s.

2)Determine the Charge and given for the Current = 6amps , Free Electron Density = 25e/m3 , Cross-sectional Area = 2m2 , Drift Velocity = 0.06m/s.

Answer

u = I / ( n  * A * q )

0.06 = 6 / ( 25 * 2 * q )

q = 2coulomb.
