Cylinder Force Calculator, Formula, Cylinder Force Calculation

Cylinder Force Calculator:

Enter the values of pressure, P(Pa) and diameter of the piston, d(m) to generate the value of cylinder Force, F(N).

Enter Pressure: Pa
Enter Diameter of the Piston: m

Result – Cylinder Force: N

Cylinder Force Formula:

The cylinder force formula is used to calculate the force exerted by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder.

Cylinder Force, F(N) in Newtons is calculated by dividing the product of the pressure, P(Pa) in Pascals, diameter of the piston, d(m) and pi by 4.

Cylinder Force, F(N) = P(Pa) * 3.14 * d2(m) / 4

F(N) = cylinder force in Newton, N.

P(Pa) = pressure in Pascals, Pa.

d(m) = diameter of the piston in metres, m.

Cylinder Force Calculation:

  1. A hydraulic cylinder with a piston diameter of 0.1 metrs operates at a pressure of 5 MPa (5,000,000 Pa). Find the force exerted by the cylinder.

Given: P(Pa) = 5,000,000Pa, d(m) = 0.1m.

Cylinder Force, F(N) = P(Pa) * 3.14 * d2(m) / 4

F(N) = 5,000,000 * 3.14 * 0.12 / 4

F(N) =39,269N.

  1. Suppose a hydraulic cylinder is required to exert a force of 15,000 N, and the pressure inside the cylinder is 5MPa (or 5,000,000 Pa). Calculate the diameter of the piston required to achieve this force.

Given: P(Pa) = 5,000,000Pa, F(N) =15000N.

Cylinder Force, F(N) = P(Pa) * 3.14 * d2(m) / 4

d2(m) = F(N) * 4 / P(Pa) * 3.14

d2(m) = 15000 * 4 / 5,000,000 * 3.14

d2(m) = 0.0038197

d(m) = √(0.0038197)

d(m) = 0.062m.
