BOPP Film Weight Formula:

BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film is a type of plastic film manufactured by stretching polypropylene in both the machine and transverse directions.

This bi-directional stretching process enhances the film’s mechanical properties, including strength, clarity, and durability.

The film is used extensively in packaging due to its excellent barrier properties, high gloss, and ability to be printed upon.

The weight of a BOPP film is a function of its density, length, and width. Density is a measure of how much mass is contained in a given volume of the film, typically expressed in grams per square metre.

Weight, W(g) in grams is calculated by multiplying the density, g(g/m2) in grams per square metre by the factor 0.254, the length, L(m) in metres, and the width, W(m) in metres, then dividing by 63,500.

Weight, W(g) = g(g/m2) * 0.254 * L(m) * W(m) / 63500

W(g) = weight in grams, g.

g(g/m2) = density in grams per square metres, g/m2.

L(m) = length in metres, m.

W(m) = width in metres, m.

BOPP Film Weight Calculation:

  1. A BOPP film has a weight of 500 grams, a length of 10 metres, and a width of 1.2 metres. Find the density of the film.

Given: L(m) = 10m, W(m) = 1.2m, W(g) = 500g.

Weight, W(g) = g(g/m2) * 0.254 * L(m) * W(m) / 63500

g(g/m2) = W(g) * 63500 / 0.254 * L(m) * W(m)

g(g/m2) = 500 * 63500 / 0.254 * 10 * 1.2

g(g/m2) = 10,400g/m2.

  1. A BOPP film has a density of 1,200 grams per square meter, a length of 15 meters, and a width of 2 meters. Calculate the weight of the film.

Given: L(m) = 15m, W(m) = 2m, g(g/m2) = 1200g/m2.

Weight, W(g) = g(g/m2) * 0.254 * L(m) * W(m) / 63500

W(g) = 1200 * 0.254 * 15 * 2 / 63500

W(g) = 9144 / 63500

W(g) = 0.144g.
