Fabric Density Calculator, Formula, Fabric Density Calculation

Fabric Density Calculator:

Enter the values of density of warp threads, Dwarp and density of weft threads, Dweft to determine the value of Fabric density, FD (yarn/in2).

Enter Density of Warp Threads: warp
Enter Density o: weft

Result – Fabric Density: yarn/in2

Fabric Density Formula:

Fabric density (FD) refers to the number of yarns or threads in each area of fabric, typically measured in yarn per square inch. It determines the compactness, strength, and texture of the fabric, influencing its durability and feel.

Warp density – the number of warp threads per unit length. Warp threads run vertically in the fabric.

Weft density – the number of weft threads per unit length. Weft threads run horizontally in the fabric.

The density of warp and weft threads in a fabric indicates how tightly the fabric is woven. Higher fabric density generally means the fabric is stronger and more durable but may be less breathable.

Both warp and weft thread count contribute to the overall fabric density. A fabric with a high warp density and a low weft density will still be denser than a fabric with lower thread counts in both directions.

Fabric density, FD (yarn/in2) in yarn per square inches is calculated by multiplying the density of warp threads, Dwarp in yarn per inch by the density of weft threads, Dweft in yarn per inch.

Fabric density, FD (yarn/in2) = Dwarp * Dweft

FD (yarn/in2) = Fabric density in yarn per square inches, yarn/in2.

Dwarp = density of warp threads in yarn per inch.

Dweft = density of weft threads in yarn per inch.

Fabric Density Calculation:

  1. A fabric has a warp thread density of 80 yarn per inch and a weft thread density of 60 yarn per inch. What is the fabric density?

Given: Dwarp = 80, Dweft =60.

Fabric density, FD(yarn/in2) =  Dwarp * Dweft

FD(yarn/in2) =  80 * 60

FD(yarn/in2) =  4800yarn/in2.

  1. A fabric has a fabric density of 3600 threads per square inch and a weft thread density of 45 threads per inch. What is the warp thread density?

Given: FD(yarn/in2) =  3600yarn/in2, Dweft =45.

Fabric density, FD(yarn/in2) =  Dwarp * Dweft

Dwarp = FD(yarn/in2) / Dweft

Dwarp = 3600 / 45

Dwarp = 80yarn/in.
