Net Impulse Calculator, Formula, Net Impulse Calculation

Net Impulse Calculator:

Enter the values of net force, Fnet(N) and change in time, t(s) to determine the value of Net impulse, Inet(N-s).

Enter Net Force: N
Enter Time in Seconds: s

Result – Net Impulse: N-s

Net Impulse Formula:

Net impulse represents the total change in momentum of an object resulting from the application of a net force over a certain time period.

Net impulse quantifies the cumulative effect of all forces acting on an object over a specified time interval.

The stronger the net force acting on the object (think harder kick), the greater the impulse delivered.

The longer the net force acts on the object (think longer kick duration), the larger the resulting impulse.

A net force acts on an object for a specific time (t). This force causes the object’s momentum (mass times velocity) to change.

The net impulse (Inet) represents the total change in momentum resulting from the net force acting over that time interval.

Net impulse, Inet(N-s) in Newton seconds is calculated by the product of net force, Fnet(N) in Newtons and change in time, t(s) in seconds.

Net impulse, Inet(N-s) = Fnet(N) * t(s)

Inet(N-s) = net impulse in Newton seconds, N-s.

Fnet(N) = net force in Newtons, N.

t(s) = time in seconds, s.

Net Impulse Calculation:

  1. Finding Net Impulse using Net Force and Time:

Given: Fnet(N) = 100N, t(s) = 5s.

Net impulse, Inet(N-s) = Fnet(N) * t(s)

Inet(N-s) = 100 * 5

Inet(N-s) = 500N-s.

  1. Finding Time using Net Impulse and Net Force:

Given: Fnet(N) = 50N, Inet(N-s) = 300N-s.

Net impulse, Inet(N-s) = Fnet(N) * t(s)

t(s) = Inet(N-s) / Fnet(N)

t(s) = 300 / 50

t(s) = 6s.
