Efficiency, a vital factor. Inverters aren’t 100% efficient. Some energy is lost during the DC to AC conversion process. A higher efficiency rating translates to more usable AC power output for your devices.
DC input from sources like solar panels or batteries is fed into the inverter. The inverter utilizes electronic circuits to convert the DC input voltage and current into AC output voltage and current.
The AC output voltage and current are at the appropriate frequency (e.g., 50 Hz or 60 Hz) to power your AC appliances.
Inverter power, Pi(W) in watts is calculated by dividing the rated inverter power, RP(W) in watts and efficiency, E in percentage by 100.

E = efficiency in percentage.
Inverter Power Calculation:
- An inverter has a rated power of 1000 watts (W) and an efficiency of 85%. Calculate the inverter power output.
Given: RP(W) = 1000, E = 85%.
Inverter power, Pi(W) = RP(W) * E / 100
Pi(W) = 1000 * 85 / 100
Pi(W) = 850W.
- An inverter with an efficiency of 90% provides an output power of 450 watts (W). Calculate the rated power of the inverter.
Given: Pi(W) = 450W, E = 90%.
Inverter power, Pi(W) = RP(W) * E / 100
RP(W) = Pi(W) * 100 / E
RP(W) = 450 * 100 / 90
