Uphole Velocity Formula:

The Uphole Velocity UHV(ft/s) in feet per second is equal to the Value of 183.4 into multiply the Flow Rate of Uphole CFM(ft3/m) in feet cube per minute is Divided by the Hole Diameter HD(inches) in inches is squared and subtracted by the Pipe Diameter PD(inches) in inches is squared.

The Equation of Uphole Velocity can be writtern as,

UHV(ft/s) = 183.4 * CFM(ft3/m) / ( HD2(inches) – PD2(inches) )

Here,

UHV(ft/s) = Uphole Velocity in feet per second

CFM(ft3/m) = Flow Rate of Uphole in feet cube per minute

HD(inches) = Hole Diameter in inches

Example Problems for Uphole Velocity:

1)Calculate the Uphole Velocity and given for Flow Rate of Uphole = 180ft3/m , Hole Diameter = 6inches , Pipe Diameter = 3inches.

Answer

UHV = 183.4 * CFM / ( HD2 – PD2 )

UHV = 183.4 * 180 / ( 62 – 32 )

UHV = 1222.66ft/s.

2)Calculate the Flow Rate of Uphole and given for Uphole Velocity = 1222.66ft/s , Hole Diameter = 6inches , Pipe Diameter = 3inches.

Answer

UHV = 183.4 * CFM / ( HD2 – PD2 )

1222.66 = 183.4 * CFM / ( 62 – 32 )

CFM = 180ft3/m.
