Stream Velocity Calculator:
Enter the values of Volumetric flow rate Q(ft3/s) , Width of the stream W(ft) & Depth of the stream D(ft) to determine the value of Stream Velocity SV(ft/s).
Stream Velocity Formula:
The Stream Velocity SV(ft/s) in feet per second is equal to the Volumetric flow rate Q(ft3/s) in feet cube per second is Divided by the Width of the stream W(ft) in feet into multiply the Depth of the stream D(ft) in feet.
The Equation of Stream Velocity can be writtern as,
SV(ft/s) = Q(ft3/s) / ( W(ft) * D(ft) )
Here,
SV(ft/s) = Stream Velocity in feet per second
Q(ft3/s) = Volumetric flow rate in feet cube per second
W(ft) = Width of the stream in feet
D(ft) = Depth of the stream in feet
Example Problems for Stream Velocity:
1)Determine the Stream Velocity and given for Volumetric flow rate = 2500ft3/s , Width of the stream = 40ft , Depth of the stream = 3ft.
Answer
SV = Q / ( W * D )
SV = 2500 / ( 40 * 3 )
SV = 20.83ft/s.
2)Determine the Depth of the stream and given for Volumetric flow rate = 2500ft3/s , Width of the stream = 40ft , Stream Velocity = 20.83ft/s.
Answer
SV = Q / ( W * D )
20.83 = 2500 / ( 40 * D )
D = 3ft.
