Step Down Transformer & Step Up Transformer Calculator

Step down transformer & Step up transformer calculator:

Transformer Current Calculator

The transformers are being classified based on the output voltage levels and they are step-down transformer and step-up transformer.

Step-up transformer:

If the output voltage is greater than the input voltage, then such transformers are called a step-up transformer.

i.e Vp input voltage in volts and Vs output voltage in volts, if Vs > Vs then such transformers are called a step-up transformer.

Output voltage > Input Voltage

Step Down Transformer:

The transformer which output voltage is lesser than the input voltage is called step down transformer.

Typically,

Vp > Vs

Input Voltage > Output Voltage

The difference between these two voltages always maintains an integer ratio, It is called voltage ratio.

How to identify a transformer?

Generally, if the transformer is mentioned by 11kV/415V means, it is called step-down transformer, the input will be given as 11kV and the output will be connected to 415V.

At the same time, the transformer is mentioned by 22kV/220kV means, it is called a step-up transformer. The input will be 22kV and the output will be 220kV.

Another transformer is called the ideal transformer whose input voltage is equal to the output voltage.

  1. In the article above you called both examples step-up, I believe you meant to state “step-down” on first example instead of the following:
Generally, if the transformer is mentioned by 11kV/415V means, it is called step-up transformer, the input will be given as 11kV and the output will be connected to 415V.

    Keep up the good info.
